Blog Lexicon

In every profession or industry, each has its jargons. Like in accounting jargon, we have the famous asset, liabilities and capital. Although these have been commonly used, even on every day’s conversation. But still, their definition is somewhat different on what accountants meant.

In blogging, they have their own gobbledygook. According to Technorati, millions of blogs entries have been created in 2006 and thousands of blogs coming onine everyday. Time will come that everyone of us will speak the same language, the blog tongue.

Let’s limit our terms on what we first see on our blog when we’re about to post our new entry. To give you an idea how to understand blogging, here’s the general terms you must remember:

Blog: Shortened for “web log”. Please refer to What is Blog post to know more.

Blogroll: Simply list of links to other blogs that the blogger also read regularly. The blogs I regularly visit are the blogs of my Kababayans; the father-and-son Carl and Allan Ocab, Melo Villareal and the famous blogger behind Yugatech.com, Abe Olandres. These are more than my encouragements in writing than as a blogroll.

Dashboard: Every blog has dashboard wherein it automatically shows all the tools, functions, creating a new post. This will make it easier for blogger to manage your blogs

Ping: You probably used this ping on your command prompt, to test if your internet connection is reachable by the IP network. In blogging, ping means testing your posts if they can reach more “ping servers”.

Post: Remember your Post-it. You use post-it to remind you something, and definitely something is written on it. Post or entry is the article you make. An article in a newspaper usually contains long paragraphs. In blog, a post is an article regardless of how long or shorts your sentences, phrases and paragraphs.
